About

I build web systems — and the teams that ship them.

Software engineer with eight years of experience, two of them leading teams. I work across the stack with PHP/Laravel, React, and Python/FastAPI, for Japanese enterprise clients.

Right now I lead a five-person team building a production RAG system — AI-powered question answering over a company's own documents. I stay hands-on: ingestion pipeline, FastAPI services, vector search on pgvector, prompt design on Azure OpenAI.

I also design the engineering standards my company runs on — code review templates, coding guidelines, onboarding — and I run the training programs that go with them.

Case study

Turning around a Japanese enterprise web system

I took over a project that was already four weeks late. The codebase carried heavy technical debt, bugs kept coming back, and the client's feedback had turned into a steady stream of complaints. Nine months later we had shipped three releases in a row, on schedule, without losing a single person from the team.

The problem

4

weeks behind schedule when I took over

  • Significant technical debt across the codebase
  • High bug rate, with regressions reaching the client
  • Conflict inside the team and low morale

What I did

  • Restructured the task breakdown and reassigned work so it matched each engineer's strengths
  • Introduced merge request templates and enforced a structured code review process
  • Ran weekly alignment meetings with the PM to keep expectations explicit

The result

3

consecutive releases delivered on schedule

  • Bug rate down noticeably once code review took hold
  • Client complaints replaced by explicit praise in writing
  • Zero turnover on the team for the whole project

      Technical Lead

      • Lead a five-person team building a RAG-based document Q&A system for a Japanese enterprise client — v1 shipped to production, later releases in progress.
      • Stay hands-on across the system: document ingestion pipeline, FastAPI services, RabbitMQ, vector search on PostgreSQL + pgvector, and prompt design on Azure OpenAI.
      • Work directly with Japanese clients in written English, daily — requirements analysis and progress reporting.
      • Designed company-wide engineering standards adopted by 20 engineers across six teams; interview candidates, run performance reviews, and mentor junior engineers.
    2. Software Engineer

      • Integrated Microsoft Office 365 APIs into company products, replacing manual document generation and workflow steps.
      • Built a privacy filtering system that detects and masks sensitive data in documents for a Japanese client.
      • Maintained and optimised existing web applications, improving performance and cutting server costs.

    1. Software Engineer

      • Maintained the company's product websites and helped build a production management system for a printing company.
